Closing Wounds and Opening Doors
This photo was taken in a restaurant in San Miguel de Allende, MX, on Christmas Eve. Curious, and picking out the words I knew, I asked my husband Mark, fluent in Spanish, to translate for me:
“As through the jungle
Roads are opening
So also, in life
Destiny is being forged
We are opening doors
And we are closing wounds
Because in the coming year
We are going to live life”
This hit me. So many nuggets. Especially the “opening doors and closing wounds”. 2024 was a roller-coaster for most of us, right? I’ve watched several entrepreneurs have incredible break-throughs… while others have struggled to get a solid footing and are in survivor mode.
Even if you’ve had a tough year, take time to look back and take note of all you accomplished. Did you fail spectacularly at something? Even THAT is something to celebrate because every time you try something that doesn’t work, you’re one step closer to finding something that DOES!
At the end of 2023, inspired by the book Gap Vs. Gain, my co-founder Morgan Stanley (her real name!) led us through an exercise where we made a rapid-fire list of everything we’d accomplished during the year. It was amazing…and invigorating. When you’re in the midst of it all, slaying dragons and alligators every day, you lose track of how far you’ve come. Exhaustion and disappointment can set in. True confession: It is my nature to live “in the gap” – tracking all the things we didn’t get done, where we failed, what we SHOULD have done. But when you go back in time, week by week, and list your accomplishments, you’ll see you’ve come a long way! You’ve made real progress!
But then, we get to turn the page and have a reset. Though January 1st is just another day, there is something cathartic about ending 2024, “closing wounds”, and now…opening doors. It is the perfect time for a fresh start. Because in the New Year, we’re going to live life. Let’s all make it our goal to “live life” and “THRIVE in ‘25”!
Happy New Year!
Go change the world!
